Acute esophageal bleeding and endoscopic injection sclerotherapy

Endoscopic injection sclerotherapy in the critical care setting is a recently developed method for controlling bleeding from esophageal varices. Since this therapy is often employed as an emergency measure, nurses in ERs and ICUs should be familiar with the procedure. The enclosed outline can be modified to fit the needs of individual physicians, units, and institutions.
