Using Carvedilol to Treat Heart Failure
Morbidity and mortality for patients with heart failure are alarmingly high. New findings of several studies indicate that {beta}-blockers, which were previously thought to be contraindicated in patients with heart failure, decrease morbidity and mortality and improve symptoms and quality of life for these patients. This article provides a discussion of the beneficial effects of {beta}-blockers, especially carvedilol, in the treatment of heart failure. A teaching guide for patients being treated with carvedilol is also included.

Monitoring Arterial Blood Pressure: What You May Not Know
Arterial blood pressure (ABP), a basic hemodynamic index, is often used to guide therapeutic interventions in critically ill patients. Inaccurate ABP measuring may cause misdiagnosis and mismanagement. Because of a knowledge deficit related to hemodynamic and ABP monitoring, the authors discuss ABP physiology, factors that affect ABP, and the arterial pressure waveform and its interpretation in clinical situations.
