Anthrax as a Biological Weapon: An Old Disease That Poses a New Threat
Naturally occurring illness due to Bacillus anthracis is under control throughout much of the world; however, the microorganism remains a biological agent and can be used for terroristic purposes. This article provides a discussion of the pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of anthrax and the information necessary to manage patients and educate the public about this disease.

Endocarditis: Use of Antibiotic Desensitization
Listeria monocytogenes, an opportunistic organism commonly acquired from contaminated foods, is a particularly deadly cause of bacterial endocarditis. Although signs and symptoms vary, diagnosis is based on results of blood cultures and echocardiographic evidence of endocardial involvement. The author describes the development of Listeria endocarditis and the role of antibiotic treatment, and includes a case study.

Beating-heart CABG surgery is a practical option for patients requiring myocardial revascularization and who have contraindications to cardiopulmonary bypass.
